Personal Chef Meal Service
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)?
Q: Why would I need a
Personal Chef?
A: Clients choose to have a Personal
Chef for many reasons. We find the main reason is that they would like to have
more personal time and/or time with their family. We handle the recipe
research, menu planning, grocery shopping, meal preparation, storing of prepared
meals and cleanup. This adds up at the end of each week, month, and year.
Additionally,
we find that some of our Senior clients may need someone to cook for them.
Having a meal service option that is not frozen or packaged food allows them to
enjoy fresh-cooked, healthy meals, typically using family recipes right in their
own home.
Q: Why do you prepare the
food in my kitchen?
A: The law requires personal chefs to
use their clients’ kitchens unless the chef has access to a licensed commercial
kitchen. We bring everything we need including our own pots/pans, utensils,
special equipment and related items necessary to prepare your meals.
Q: How often do you cook for your clients?
A: That depends on the meal plan service
chosen, the number of servings and the capacity of the refrigeration/freezer
equipment in your home. Typically once a week.
Q: How long will you be in my kitchen?
A: Typically, it takes between 4-8 hours to prepare one week’s amount of food.
Q: Does someone need to be here? Can we chat while you cook? What about
children?
A: We cook during the day when many
clients are at work. If you or family members happen to be home, it’s not
a problem. However, while I’m happy to answer questions for a few minutes
at the beginning or end of the cook date, I often have many dishes being
prepared at the same time. For safety purposes, this requires my full
attention. It would be easy to become distracted while carrying on a
conversation. This can lead to cuts, burns and/or missed ingredients. In order to
deliver the best product that I can, I ask that you allow me to work
with minimal distractions.
Q: My son/daughter would like to go to cooking school. Can he/she help?
A: Please see the answer to the previous
question. However, we offer separate cooking lessons for any of our clients.
Q: What if I have pets?
A: We can discuss how you would like us
to handle any pets in the home during our first consultation.
Q: Do I need to do anything to prepare
for the cook date?
A: That’s easy. Counter, refrigerator
and freezer space. It is extremely helpful that the counters be clean and
cleared of as much clutter as possible. Also, we will need room in your
refrigerator and freezer for the meals we prepare. If you are using the
reusable container option, then please have the containers washed and ready for
use. We can clean counters, clear out old food in refrigerators, make room in
freezers and wash containers for a fee. There is an additional charge for this
service, since it takes time away from meal preparation.
Q: What if I would like extra side dishes prepared?
A: I would be happy to provide that service for you, but it will entail an
additional fee.
Q: Are you insured?
A: Yes, we carry Personal Chef liability insurance.
Q: Do you offer Gift Certificates?
A: Yes, we offer Gift Certificates
starting at $20.00 up to a one full week of service. Gift Certificates for our
other services are also available.
